Wild Thing

Coverage of that story is available here and here. Ashley appeared on RTÉ's Morning Ireland this morning. You can listen back here (from 01:26:41)

Also up for discussion on Morning Ireland this morning was the June 2026 deadline for the EU Pay Transparency Directive, which aims to give jobseekers clearer information about salaries before accepting roles. Business Plus reports that, across Europe, the data suggests that employers have been slow to change their practices, despite growing pressure from policymakers and workers.

Elsewhere, staff at An Post have voted to accept a two-year deal on pay worth five per cent, with almost 87% of CWU members backing the agreement in a ballot. Fórsa members at An Post conclude their ballot at 5pm this evening.

News in brief elsewhere includes a report that many people believe they will have to continue working until they are 70 to maintain their incomes despite wanting to retire 10 years earlier; Just over half of employers in Ireland still believe AI will not impact their headcount, while the latest exchequer returns show the public finances were boosted by stronger-than-expected out-turns in income tax, VAT and corporation tax in the first four months of the year.

Finally, the Hope and Courage Collective has published a new report illustrating how public attitudes in Ireland are becoming steadily more inclusive, while some political rhetoric appears to be doing the opposite. The Cork Independent looks at the report while interrogating the popularity of the far right in Ireland. If you are interested in a deeper analysis on that I recommend the latest edition of The Gist by Simon McGirr.

Your Zen this morning marks the 100th birthday of David Attenborough.

Have a great day.
