Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe has announced that public service workers who were rehired for one year after their retirement will not be allowed remain in work until the age of 70. The announcement follows the law changing late last year to allow public servants approaching the previous mandatory retirement age now, to remain at work until the age of 70.

 

The 'Raise the Roof' campaign has launched a petition calling for a right to housing to be enshrined in the Constitution. The campaign group, which is backed by Fórsa and the Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU), have launched the survey on the back of recent demonstrations calling for measures to resolve the housing crisis in Cork and Dublin, and ahead of another protest in Galway. The petition is available to sign here.

 

Ambulance crews which are members of the Psychiatric Nurses Association (PNA) are set to hold two further days of strike action next month in a dispute over union recognition and representation rights. The crews will also stage a protest outside Leinster House tomorrow.

More than 1,300 writers have backed a campaign for Waterstones booksellers to be paid the living wage. The campaign comes after a petition from staff at Waterstones, signed by more than 6,000 people, called on the book chain to pay booksellers a starting living wage.
