ZMOTY 2019
Opening nominations for Zen Moment Of The Year 2019
by Niall Shanahan

Our own Seán Carabini, spoke on RTE's This Week programme yesterday about how understaffing at The National Archives is threatening major projects.

Elsewhere, it's reported that the opposition is considering tabling a motion of no confidence against Health Minister Simon Harris early in the new year.

The first Public Service-wide Innovation Week takes place from today until Friday. More details here.

Ryanair is in court again, this time taking action against its former chief operating officer Peter Bellew. I only include this morning because the Ryanair chief executive's comments about his former colleague provides some intrigue, not least the revelation that Bellew was hired in 2017 to "head off unionisation" among pilots.

ZMOTY 2019

Throughout this week we'll be announcing the Communications Unit shortlist for Zen Moment Of The Year 2019. We'll be issuing a poll of the shortlisted entries in next week's editions and we'll announce what you've decided is the ultimate Zen Moment Of The Year 2019 in our final digest of the year, on Friday 20th December.

Today's nomination is from Bernard Harbor who gave us this Zen moment on 26th July.

"Me and Niall went to see Icebreaker perform Brian Eno’s Apollo at the national concert hall in July. In the first half of the set, they did a couple of pieces by Anna Meredith, which introduced me to the work of this brilliant and accomplished composer and musician. They didn’t perform Paramour, but did mention this video, which appeared as Zen immediately afterwards. I love its playful genius."

Have a good week.
