Last night Senator Laura Harmon tabled a new Bill on leave for injuries for teachers and SNAs, the Education (Leave for Injuries) Bill 2025. Introducing the Bill, Senator Harmon noted it was drafted in conjunction with Fórsa, the INTO, and campaigner Sophie Cole.
In the Indo, Anne-Marie Walsh reports that ICTU has urged the Government to ensure a new law to end forced retirement is not “left gathering dust”. General secretary Owen Reidy, responding to President Connolly’s signing of the employment bill on contractual retirement ages into law, urged Enterprise Minister Peter Burke to ensure that the WRC draws up a code of practice on the law restricting the use of mandatory retirement ages as soon as possible.
Elsewhere, RTÉ reports that around 270 workers at Caredoc have gone on strike as part of industrial action that is likely to cause significant disruption to GP out-of-hours services in the southeast of the country.
