The Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU) has issued a call for papers on topics relating to "labour, gender and class in the struggle for Irish Independence 1918-1924," as part of a conference it's jointly hosting with NUI Galway from 7th - 9th November.   

 

A survey by business consultancy group Korn Ferry has found that the gap between the best-paid jobs and entry-level posts in Ireland has widened to 5.3% since 2008, one of the largest increases in Europe.

 

RTÉ reports that the latest Government figures on homelessness have decreased for the second month in a row. It says that according to the Department of Housing, there were 10,173 adults and children in emergency accommodation in June, a drop of 81 on May's figures and 206 since April. Covering the same story, the Examiner reports that Focus Ireland are questioning the validity of the latest homeless figures.

 

The Irish Council for Civil Liberties (ICCL) has renewed its criticism of the Public Service Card, in an event it hosted on Monday. Speakers at the event, including the UN’s special rapporteur on extreme poverty, Philip Alston, said "immediate clarity is needed on the scope, intention and justification for the mishmash that is the Public Services Card," and questioned its compliance with GDPR.

 

Aodhán Ó Ríordáin has a piece in the Irish Times on an enhanced funding model for schools, to address social injustice and lead to greater equality for students.
