The industrial action at Roscommon county council has ended.

RTÉ News understands that the terms of a resolution have been agreed to end industrial action over flexi-leave at the council.

Over 160 staff members have been staging two days of strike action per week over the last two weeks since the dispute began over the refusal of management at the council to approve time off for employees who said they wanted to build it up for family and other engagements.

Yesterday, another 50 SIPTU members voted to join the strike but talks took place at the Workplace Relations Commission in Dublin have led to a deal that will end the dispute.

In a statement this afternoon, Peter Nolan, head of Fórsa's Local Government and Services division, said: "Based on the documents received from the WRC and the oversight group, we're satisfied there's a clear route to the full availability of flexi-leave for our members."

Fórsa states that the WRC document recommends that both parties agree that all staff at the council are allowed to generate flexitime/flexileave, and that council management would have to be satisfied that there is sufficient, productive work to enable the generation of flexitime/flexileave.

The document also recommends that Roscommon County Council will facilitate the taking of leave subject to ordinary business needs.

The union expects to go to the WRC tomorrow to finalise the details.
