On the fifth day
by Niall Shanahan

Here's a few links to coverage of yesterday's Future of Working Time event:

Kevin Callinan took part in a discussion on Today fm's Last Word with John Barry of Isme (listen back here from 01:16), while one of our guest speakers, Kate Bell of the TUC took part in a discussion on Seán O'Rourke's RTE Radio One show yesterday with Maeve McElwee of the employer body Ibec, you can listen back here.

Joe O'Connor will also be speaking this morning on KFM (Kildare at 9.45) and East Coast FM (Wicklow/Dublin at 11.15) about the shorter working week.

In today's news the Indo reports that former Ibec negotiator Brendan McGinty says agreeing to freeze wages should be part of union and employment deals in sectors that are most at risk from Brexit, while migrant fishermen work an average of 116 hours per week but are only paid an average of €2.83 per hour, the High Court has heard.

You may not be surprised to learn Ireland is pretty rubbish when it comes to achieving its targets on greenhouse gas emissions.

Elsewhere, Mandate has sent a message to its members urging them to apply for four years of tax relief, before Revenue removes them, while a psychiatrist has advised parents should to set rules stopping their teenagers from drinking alcohol until they are at least 18, which is one of the stories I'll be discussing on this afternoon's news review panel on Today fm's Last Word from 4.30pm.

Finally, your Zen moment comes in two pieces. First, via the photo above, Henri Cartier Bresson captures French workers enjoying their first paid holidays in the first half of the 20th century.

Second, have a go at creating your very own Conservative Party name by combining the first name of a grandparent with the name of the street you first lived in, hyphenated with your first head teacher’s surname.

Have a lovely weekend.
