Dublin City Council has proposed updating the building height limits for the city, which could see some buildings reaching 25 storeys or potentially even higher. The council has made the proposals in the Draft Dublin Development Plan 2022-2028. 

 

Banking staff nationwide are being trained to spot the signs of financial abuse and coercive control. The move follows research which found that over 20% of women aged 18 to 34 do not have control of their finances.

 

In political news, Northern Ireland's First Minister Paul Givan has handed in his notice, the charges against all defendants in the ‘Golfgate’ trial have been dismissed, and Boris Johnson's leadership has been further thrown into crisis by the resignation of four key aides within four hours. 

 

The Cabinet sub-committee on economic recovery will meet next week to discuss the rising cost of living in Ireland, as well as a “suite of measures” to combat it including increasing the energy credit of €100 which is due to be issued in March, increasing the tax-free bonus amount an employer can give an employee from €500 to €1,000 annually, and expanding the fuel allowance season.

On this day in 1973, Elton John started a three-week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with 'Crocodile Rock'. Elton's first of five US No.1 singles was inspired by John's discovery of leading Australian band Daddy Cool and their hit single 'Eagle Rock'.
