Fórsa have backed a campaign to name the new National Children's Hospital after Kathleen Lynn, a doctor who lobbied for improved healthcare for young people in the early years of the State. Speaking speaking at an event in Leinster House organised by Senator Mary Fitzpatrick as part of a campaign to name the hospital after Dr Kathleen Lynn, Fórsa's Lisa Connell said that in Dublin, many of the statues, infrastructure and buildings were named after men who were involved in the foundation of the State and this was not the case for women. 

 

An Irish peacekeeper has tragically died in Lebanon after a convoy came under attack last night. Investigations have begun into the incident which has left a further three people in hospital, one in a serious condition.

 

In its latest quarterly bulletin the ESRI said an international recession coupled with persistent cost of living pressures means that the Irish economy will grow at a significantly reduced pace next year.

 

The Government has been urged by the Connect union to introduce laws setting temperature limits for workplaces, as the temperature is expected to drop to -11oc in places.

 

THe Independent writes that the OECD has told the Governent it should scrap its commitment to keep the state pension age at 66 and continually increase it in line with life expectancy to keep debt under control.
