The Times leads this morning with news that Government is likely to accept a recommendation from an independent body that working time in the civil and public service should be restored to pre-austerity levels from 1st July 2022. There was also broad coverage by RTÉ, The Indo and The Examiner.

Government is expected to receive public health advice which has examined the possibility of easing restrictions for close contacts.The matter is set to be discussed by the Cabinet tomorrow. Speaking to Highland Radio on the matter ICTU’s Dr Laura Bambrick said the health and safety of workers must be the priority.

 

Meanwhile, the INMO has called on the HSE to curtail as many patient services as possible at University Hospital Galway to ensure a severely reduced staff can deliver safe patient care there.

 

Elsewhere, Siptu members of Dublin Fire Brigade are set for talks with management in the coming days in an attempt to resolve a long running dispute over staffing levels in the service.

 

The Irish Second-Level Students’ Union has said that State exams cannot ahead as planned this year due to Covid-related disruption. Read more on that here.
