Career Pathway Review – Agreement reached

Dear member,

Following lengthy negotiations between the HSE and Fórsa, agreement has been reached  in the Career Pathway Review dispute.

What does this mean for you?

  1. The staff to senior process has been bottomed out in Primary Care with hundreds of members moving into senior posts. For Social Work members in Primary Care, we have reached agreement on the grade of Senior Social Worker, Primary Care which will see the implementation of the pathway now commence for Social Work members on the same basis as it applied for others. Discussions will also continue for other SW grades impacted.

  2. If you work outside of Primary Care, a staff to senior pathway will now be stood up. Further detail will issue on this over the coming weeks, but the main points are included in the text of the agreement. This was a significant achievement given the opening position of the employer in relation to this pathway. It was only possible to achieve this because of the determination of members to take industrial action if it were not achieved.

  3. For those who are employed in other grades, the substantive Career Pathway Review will now re-convene to address the outstanding issues, including but not limited to, Clinical Specialisms, Advanced Practice, CPD and Supervision, Discipline Manager Roles and Ratios, and future career pathways in the Health Region Structure. The work of this group will conclude within six months.

The Dispute Committee of the Divisional Executive Committee has written to the employer formally accepting the agreement and standing down the industrial action that was previously suspended.

If members have queries about this agreement, please contact your local Fórsa branch in the first instance.

Kind regards,

National Secretary for Health and Social Care Professionals, Pharmacy and Statutory Regulation
