Leo Varadkar has today announced a €55 million green fund to help businesses move away from fossil fuels will help combat climate change. The business package is to encourage firms to move towards more sustainable alternatives.

Meanwhile, SIPTU members in several care and community organisations, including the Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA) as well as numerous local social services in county Galway and county Waterford, have begun a ballot for strike action in a long running pay dispute.

 

Tesco said today it was seeing early indications of changing customer behaviour due to surging inflationary pressures that had made the market environment "incredibly challenging".

 

A new network of groups supporting transgender people has called on RTÉ to ensure that its programmes in future strike a balance between free speech and protecting vulnerable minorities. Trans Equality Together, which includes groups such as the National Women’s Council (NWC), Amnesty International Ireland and the Irish Network Against Racism, raised concerns about three recent programmes on RTÉ Radio One’s Liveline phone-in show about trans people.

 

And Russian gas supply to Europe via the Nord Stream 1 pipeline fell further today as Moscow said more delays in repairs could lead to suspending all flows, putting a brake on Europe's race to refill its gas inventories. More on that here.
