Raise the Roof will be hosting a meeting on the recently published ‘Housing for All’ plan on Friday 15th October 11.30am. The webinar will include analysis of the plan by experts and whether or not it can solve the housing crisis, and you can register to attend here.

Brexit still finds a way into the headlines amid Budget discussions, as the European Union is set to announce significant changes to the way the Northern Ireland Protocol is implemented, resulting in a large reduction in the number of checks and controls on goods moving between Britain and Northern Ireland.


The Association representing Garda Superintendents has accused the Government of preparing to give more power to oversight bodies to deal with gardaí than An Garda Síochána has to deal with criminals. The Association is strongly critical of proposals in the forthcoming Policing and Security Bill, which it says gives "unfettered power" to the Garda Ombudsman and the Policing Authority.

Elsewhere, students from University College Dublin (UCD) are taking to the streets of Dublin this afternoon to protest over recent comments by Dublin City Council CEO Owen Keegan, in response to their complaints about student accommodation being used for short-term letting for profit.

SIPTU, which represents some contact tracers has written to the HSE saying workers are ‘deeply annoyed and frustrated’ over pay and conditions, in a rare public dispute involving contact tracers. More on that here. 

And finally to finish off, although we’ve got some time to go before Halloween, its never too early to bring back this thread of Taiwan’s “down-to-earth” Halloween party, where you ONLY dress up as normal people in everyday situations. Possibly giving us some of the most basic yet creative costume ideas.
