The month of five Mondays is finally over, and spring has arrived.
The Taoiseach weighed in on the pay restoration dispute in the section 39 agencies yesterday, acknowledging that workers “are caught in the middle between their employers, the HSE and the Government”. He said the Government did not know exactly how many people were involved, or how much it would cost to restore pay, a claim upon which he was challenged by opposition deputies.
SIPTU members in section 39 agencies are to serve notice today of industrial action, to commence with a one-day stoppage on Wednesday 14th February.
There are concerns for more than 2,500 Irish jobs at UK outsourcing company Capita. It's reported today that shares in company plunged as investors, still reeling from the collapse of Carillion a few weeks ago, fled Capita. The company holds about €140m in State contracts, including one with the Department of Justice and Equality, where it provides IT solutions.
