RTÉ picked up on Fórsa’s warning that the proposed new economic rules, published yesterday by the European Commission, risk the return of austerity. Fórsa said the new proposals betray a failure of the European Commission to learn from its own mistakes.

Fórsa’s concerns around high levels of air traffic and a shortage of air traffic controllers as we head into the busy summer season also continue to be picked up by media outlets.


The theme of this year’s May Day march and rally will be 'A world in crisis - climate, war, housing, cost-of-living, hatred - workers fighting back!'. The march will assemble at 1.30 pm (for a 2.00 pm start) on Monday 1st May at the Garden of Remembrance, Parnell Square, Dublin. It will then proceed to Beresford Place, outside Liberty Hall, for a rally with a number of speakers from Fórsa and other unions. More details here.

 

Trade union leader Mick Lynch is also to address the May Day rally in Belfast on Saturday. Mr Lynch, the head of the UK rail workers' union, the RMT, will be the guest speaker at the march and rally organised by the ICTU and hosted by Belfast and District Trades Council.


The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation has called for the Health and Safety Authority to be better resourced to enhance the safety of nurses, midwives and all other healthcare workers. The INMO is making the call on Workers’ Memorial Day, an international day of remembrance which honours those who have been killed or seriously injured in work-related incidents.

 

And the HSE has announced its spring Covid-19 booster vaccine programme for people aged 70 years and older, residents of long-term care facilities for older adults and people aged 5 years and older with a weak immune system.

An incredible moment captured on live news shows Sky News journalist unexpectedly finding her uncle among crowds of Sudan evacuees arriving in Jeddah. Video footage shared by Sky shows Sky's Africa correspondent, Yousra Elbagir, spotting her relative during live coverage at King Faisal Naval Base in Jeddah. He was standing among others who had been evacuated from the war-torn country of Sudan.
