The statement following tonight's meeting between Leo Varadkar and Micheál Martin was always going to be both brief and bland.
With everything still in play, now is not the time to be forthcoming with the media about your negotiating position.
What we do know is that the talks lasted for about an hour and were both cordial and constructive. This suggests both the Taoiseach and Fianna Fáil leader think it is at least possible that a deal can be reached.
Yet, let's be absolutely clear, there are no guarantees.
The talks centered, in the main, on what legislation could be prioritised and passed should the Dáil return for another session.
We know from letters exchanged between the two men that the Fine Gael wants reforms of the Local Property Tax, while Fianna Fáil want improvements in medical cards for the over 70s. They both want the Climate Action Bill passed.
The Taoiseach has said he is now going to consult with Fine Gael elected members and candidates - there's a big gathering in Dublin tomorrow; with the Independent Alliance; and with Independent Ministers like Katherine Zappone.
But more importantly, he is also going to speak with Independent TDs on the Opposition benches. That's critical, because he needs additional support to ensure that he has a workable majority and thereby capable of getting legislation passed.
Fianna Fáil has been clear on this question - that's Fine Gael's problem.
The crucial moment will happen sometime next week when the two men meet for a second time.
At that stage, I'd anticipate, the time for talking will be over. It will be decision time.
If they agree on a plan, it means there is more likely going to be a general election in April. If they fail, the poll will be in early to mid February.
Just to complicate matters the Dáil is due to return on Wednesday and the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen is due to visit the same day.
One thing which is absolutely clear is this - the election campaign is already under way, even if we don't know when polling day is going to happen.
