Coverage of the school secretaries dispute continues with an interview in the Meath Cronicle with Fórsa member Karen Smyth, who gave an account of the unjust treatment she faces. Fórsa's Andy Pike also gave a radio interview about the planned industrial action on KFM which you can listen back to here (beginning of hour two.) Meanwhile, there are messages of support for the secretaries' efforts coming in from the public.

 

The full extent of the gender pension gap has been revealed with research showing that women's pensions are up to a third lower than those of men's. The ESRI has called for policies to raise female employment levels, improve female pension coverage and encourage more continuity in employment through better child and elder care supports to combat this.

 

There are job-loss fears as Meat Industry Ireland, representing processors, said about 3,000 workers at 20 plants around the country have already been temporarily laid off, because picket lines have shut production by preventing cattle from coming onto the factory floor.

 

It is understood that Budget 2020 will be drafted on the assumption of a no-deal Brexit, likely meaning that many tax cuts and spending increases on public services would have to be stalled.
