On the road (again)...

RTÉ and the Irish Times cover the health conference backing health and social care workers pursuit of knock-on pay rises in the wake of the recent increases awarded to nurses and midwives, and calling on the union to campaign for the abolition of the additional unpaid hours imposed on public servants during the economic crisis.

The Irish Examiner reports that Fórsa's 'Local Power Pledge' to increase local authority funding and restore local council powers has received the backing of 10 parties fielding 1,056 local authority candidates in tomorrow’s elections.

It's also reported in the same Examiner article that Fórsa has agreed to co-operate with the establishment of nine “learning sites” to pilot new HSE community healthcare organisation structures, following a year of negotiations in the Workplace Relations Commission on the implications of the change for staffing, reporting relationships and career structures.

Fórsa has said the next round of public service pay talks should include talks on establishing “a structured, fair and sustainable funding model” for ‘section 39’ agencies, which provide housing, disability and other services on behalf of the State.

The holding company behind the National Association of General Practitioners is to go into voluntary liquidation, with the organisation entering into talks with Unite trade union in an effort to continue to represent family doctors.

The Irish Independent reports on Guinness's move to offer new fathers 26 weeks off on full pay when they have a baby, matching the maternity benefit paid to women.

Finally, today's zen is some (relatively) new music from Vampire Weekend.

Have a good day folks.
