Fórsa’s has warned that the Irish aviation’s survival will be at stake if the Government fails to boost aid to the industry alongside any tougher Covid-19 travel restrictions. This is featured in The Times this morning. Ashley Connolly spoke to Newstalk Breakfast and FM104 about the issue.

 

The Tánaiste has said the Government "will - and want to - reopen schools on a phased basis in February and March" starting with children with additional needs. Meanwhile, The Times has said that schools need to know what is expected of them before they can reopen. 

 

AstraZeneca has defended the efficacy of its Covid-19 vaccine after media reports said the German government had doubts about its effectiveness among those over 65.

 

Seán Carabini wrote to The Irish Times in response to an article published on 19th January 2021, that suggested that the Gardaí would begin training ‘park rangers’ to tackle wildlife crime. His letter was published this morning.

 

The Examiner reports heightened fears for up to 1,000 jobs across Ireland working for the Topshop-Topman group after it emerged that a British online giant was in talks to buy the retail group. 

 

RTÉ reports that the findings of a report by an independent research group into the running of mother-and-baby homes in Northern Ireland will be presented to the Stormont Executive today.

 

An estimated six out of 10 people stayed within 10km of their homes during the second week of the January lockdown period, according to data published today by the Central Statistics Office (CSO). 

 

The Times reports that more than 360 people were served eviction notices in the two months after the Government lifted a blanket ban on removing tenants last August.

I stumbled across The Tommy and Hector podcast with Laurita Blewitt a few weeks back, giving me an escape from the dreariness of January.
