Fórsa was at the May Day celebrations yesterday, with Kevin Donoghue and Betty Tyrell taking to the stage. 

 

Recruitment for a new four-day working week pilot programme has began on International Worker’s Day. Four Day Week Ireland, Fórsa and 4 Day Week Global have encouraged companies of all sizes to join the six-month trial.

 

ICTU general secretary Owen Reidy says that the trade union movement must start to take its engagement and relationship with European institutions much more seriously in this morning’s Examiner.

 

Fórsa members at Mayo County Council have said they are appalled by the “populist opportunism” of a motion calling for the local authority to cease cooperation with the intake of Ukrainian and other international protection asylum seekers. Read more on that here.

 

Cork City and County Councils’ water staff represented by Siptu have balloted strongly for industrial action concerning their proposed transfer to Uisce Éireann.

 

The nursing home sector faces a significant threat and more homes will close without additional funding, according to the Chief Executive of Nursing Homes Ireland.

Community employment workers have agreed a deal to end their long-running dispute over pay with about 800 supervisors, assistant supervisors and team leaders across a number of different schemes to receive a 5 per cent increase in two phases over the course of this year.

And finally, trade unions have issued a joint call for people to challenge those who peddle hate and anti-migrant sentiment as part of a new campaign. A video released to coincide with International Workers Day declares a stance to combat “anti-migrant” campaigns.
