Fórsa Bulletins

The latest editions of the Fórsa news bulletins were published on Friday (27th May), you can find them here:

My communications colleague Mehak wrote up this story for the news bulletins, about the union's call for "a fundamental review and reform of working time and working patterns across the economy". Following its publication to Fórsa's website on Friday it was picked up by a number of regional titles from Leitrim to Waterford and several points in between.

Elsewhere, SNA rep Linda O'Sullivan is in the Irish Mirror following calls on the government to provide more SNAs with permanent contracts, because "job uncertainty has led to stress and anxiety for those within the profession," and Sarah Harte, writing today in the Irish Examiner ('Dismantling misogyny so deeply embedded in our culture will take a group effort') mentions Fórsa's conference motion on paid leave for victims of domestic violence.

Coming up in the news this week will be public launch tomorrow (Tuesday) of the Raise the Roof housing campaign at11am in Buswells Hotel, where they'll announce details of a series of national and regional public meetings on the housing crisis, to take place in towns and cities across Ireland in the coming weeks.

The chaotic scenes at Dublin Airport yesterday were widely reported, as large queues formed from early morning and an estimated 1,000 people missed their flights as a result. DAA management is to meet with government officials this morning to discuss the situation, ahead of one of the busiest travel weekends of the year.

Zen - Iron Séamus

I'm turning the Zen space over to our colleague Séamus Smith this morning, who'll be competing in the Ironman competition in Roth, Germany, on 3rd July in aid of the Children's Medical and Research Foundation at Crumlin Children's Hospital. Séamus explained: "I've been collecting for them for close on 15 years and this will be the biggest challenge I've put myself through for the cause. It will most likely be the last (famous last words).

"My goal is to collect €5,000 and appreciate any donation big or small. To be fair some are willing to pay more than others to see me hurt......badly.

"The event is on the 3rd July around the beautiful countryside of Roth, 30 minutes south of Munich. I've been training right through Covid and hopefully the body is just about there. Temperatures on the continent are a little scary at the moment so hopefully we'll get an Irish day on the 3rd. I'd like to thank everyone for their support and well wishes over the past few months, especially those in Fórsa who joined me and dragged me along on the bike," he said.

Best of luck Séamus, we wish you well, and you can support his fundraising efforts here.

Have a great week.

Niall
