Infinitely fixable

The Times and the Examiner both picked up Fórsa’s submission to the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Autism yesterday. Linda Kelly and Andy Pike warned that long waiting lists for access to vital supports such as speech and language or occupational therapy were undermining children’s education.

 

The Central Bank has reduced its forecasts for growth in the domestic economy next year and raised its outlook for inflation. However, its latest Quarterly Bulletin says the economy will not fall into recession and it expects the labour market to remain strong. This as the Central Bank revised its consumer price inflation forecasts up to 8% for this year.


Meanwhile, the lifting of Covid-19 restrictions last year resulted in “a rise in new cases of assault” as people returned to colleges, workplaces and socialising, the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre has said. The organisation’s annual report stated that its counsellors took many calls at this time from young people, as more than half of the 14,000 calls to the national helpline last year were from first-time contacts.

Elsewhere, a potential coup against Liz Truss could be brewing, as the Guardian reports her cabinet is in open warfare over the 45% tax U-turn and benefit cuts.

And the European parliament has voted to introduce a single charging port for mobile phones, tablets and cameras by 2024 .
