The Indo reports on new CSO figures that show strong 2020 wage growth in sectors that weren't badly hit by the pandemic. Or to put it another way, the low-paid fared worse. If you have a moment, the primary source is worth a look,

Elsewhere, Covid optimism's in short supply as all titles report on likely new restrictions right after Christmas, but education minister Norma Foley is adamant that schools don't need to close early

No real news on Brexit, which still gets broad coverage. And, in a 'what passes as a story these days' moment, the Examiner reports that there'll be no new pension levy under Building Momentum.

Out west, the Connacht Tribune quotes an outraged Padraig Mulligan on the lack of mental health provision in the Community Health West winter plan. Meanwhile, it turns out there was a bank bailout after all,

Technically it's still too early, and I bow to the gathering holiday hysteria only because this is the last Digest of 2020. I, for one, will be listening to Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings' most excellent festive album while cooking next Friday morning.

Have a happy Christmas, enjoy that well-earned break, and we'll be back in the New Year.

PS. If you're wondering about today's pic, Ludwig Van Beethoven was baptised 250 years ago yesterday, so was probably born 250 years ago on Wednesday.
