News is saturated with coverage of who's going to form the next Government, with the latest story expecting Micheál Martin to rule out going in with Sinn Féin later today.

In aviation, Ryanair has lost its High Court bid to overturn decisions requiring the airline to pay compensation to ten passengers over flight cancellations due to strike action by its Irish-based Fórsa pilots.

RTÉ reports that Just Transition Commissioner Kieran Mulvey has appealed to Bord na Móna workers to wait until the first impact of sustained efforts to create alternative employment become clear this summer, before they make a decision with their families to leave the midlands area.

Ibec has called for the convening of a new national social dialogue and a new commission on taxation at its conference yesterday. It will aim to assist the next Government address the major business, societal and environmental challenges posed to Ireland. The business representatives have said the group would consist of a range of stakeholders including trade unions, NGOs and other players in the civil society arena, with positive initial contact already been made with ICTU.

Also speaking at the conference, the chief executive of Bank of Ireland urged the next government to urgently examine how it can deliver higher density and higher rise development as smoothly, quickly and efficiently as possible.

In Spain, the High Court has ruled in favour of a company that began deducting time for employee’s coffee and cigarette breaks. The controversy originates from the Government telling companies to begin recording the daily work hours of employees in order to combat not paying overtime. But in a sinister turn of events, workers have landed in a far worse position.

And last but certainly not least, CE supervisors and Section 39 workers represented by Fórsa and SIPTU will join forces tomorrow to take part in a protest rally behind a message for the next government: “Unfinished business: Don’t ignore community services.” Check out the video below for more information.
