The HSE has confirmed that up to 6,000 women may be called for a repeat smear test following the identification of an issue with HPV tests. The issues relate to standard HPV tests being carried out outside of the manufacturer's recommended timeframe, due to a backlog of tests last year.

 

RTÉ reports the Revenue Commissioners will have an additional 400 staff in place by the end of March in preparation for a no-deal Brexit. Revenue Commissioners Chairman Niall Cody is due to appear before the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform later today.

 

The Teachers' Union of Ireland (TUI) has said recruitment and retention difficulties are having a negative impact on schools, with Irish, Maths and Home Economics among the subjects worst affected by the difficulties.

 

The Irish Primary Principals' Network (IPPN) has said 27% of primary schools have children in their school that are homeless.

 

Pharmacy students are due to stage a protest outside the Dáil this morning, over changes introduced to the final year of their training. The changes mean pharmacy students will no longer be paid for an eight-month internship that they complete during their final year, and are required to pay fees of €8,500 for the year.

 

Up to 900 staff at Pfizer will take part in a ballot for industrial action, after rejecting a Labour Court recommendation concerning changes to their non-contributory defined benefit pension scheme.
