Fórsa is calling for German-style income supports for aviation jobs. Amid ongoing restrictions on air travel, the union said that Ireland lacks a European-style joined up Government approach to ensure the survival of the aviation industry post-pandemic. An aviation income support scheme similar to the one in place in Germany has been proposed, which enables employers to reduce hours rather than laying off staff.

 

Elsewhere, Green Minister, Roderic O’Gorman is opposing DAA plans to lift planning restrictions on its new €320 million runway at Dublin Airport, describing as “unacceptable” the noise levels that local residents will be faced with if the planning restrictions are lifted.

 

Today marks 300 days of the Debenhams strike in pursuit of enhanced redundancy payments, as the Tánaiste recently told the former employees that Government has honoured its obligations to them and exhausted all avenues for a resolution.

In its submission to the 'Future of Media Commission', the company said public funding should be available for specific public service roles, such as court reporters, as well as training schemes and internships for early-career journalists. 

 

Meanwhile, all RTÉ staff earning over €40,000 a year are facing pay cuts of between 3% and 5% under the revised terms of a "stability agreement" which is now set to be put to staff for ballot.

 

In the US, nominations for the Golden Globe Awards have been announced, with Brendan Gleeson among the nominees in the TV categories for his portrayal of former US President Donald Trump in The Comey Rule. Irish animated film Wolfwalkers is also shortlisted along with the television show Normal People.

I had the pleasure of seeing Fleetwood Mac live in the RDS in 2019, and today's chosen track was my favourite performance of the gig. Oh what I wouldn't give to see live music again! We wait in hope.
