Tánaiste Leo Varadkar has said any change in corporate tax rate would only affect ‘very large companies, while assuring Ireland’s 12.5% rate would remain for businesses with turnover less than €750m.

The Government will make a special payment to workers made redundant who lost reckonable service due to being laid off or put on short-time work during the Covid-19 pandemic. Announcing a fund to support those who lose their jobs in the wake of the pandemic, Tánaiste Leo Varadkar also said his department estimated a wave of redundancies in the next three years.

Fáilte Ireland has said it is currently working on attracting €929 million worth of events over coming years, the bulk of which would take place before 2025, at its conference that took place yesterday.

SIPTU members employed by Aer Lingus in ground operations at Dublin Airport have strongly rejected proposals to cut pay and alter their work practices. Some 82% rejected proposals by Aer Lingus to reduce costs and change work practices in order to offset losses incurred by the airline due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Journal reports there will be further discussions soon on the government’s plan to bring all water services in Ireland under one national provider and includes Fórsa’s role in the matter this morning. 

There have been calls for measures to tackle protests at the homes of politicians following recent demonstrations outside the homes of Health Minister Stephen Donnelly and Tánaiste Leo Varadkar. This as individuals who organised and attended the protests have pledged to continue with these types of demonstrations on a weekly basis and threatened to prevent politicians from leaving their homes.
