On the eve of Budget 2019, the Irish Times reports that housing experts have warned the Government not to introduce short-term measures to address the current crisis, suggesting further tax incentives for buyers would only inflate land values without improving affordability.

 

Another crisis demanding immediate attention, as well as long and short term measures, is climate change. There’s no votes going for taking action (and very few, if any, digest readers will click this link) but a new UN report says limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees by mid-century would require “rapid, far-reaching and unprecedented changes in all aspects of society.”

 

There's little time left for global warming to be kept to a maximum of 1.5 degrees, beyond which even half a degree will significantly worsen the risks of drought, floods, extreme heat and poverty for hundreds of millions of people.
