The Government has confirmed a referendum on gender equality will be held later this year. Proposals for constitutional amendments are to be published by the end of June, with the referendum due to take place in November. The Government's intention to hold this referendum follows recommendations made by the Citizen's Assembly on Gender Equality two years ago.

A prominent group of Afghan and Iranian women are backing a campaign calling for gender apartheid to be recognised as a crime under international law - which in an era where Afghan girls are prevented from going to school and Iranian children are killed as anti-regime protests continue, feels acutely needed.

The Guardian writes about the struggles of women with endometriosis and the urgent need for better treatments. 

 

And in other news, Sandra Hurley of RTÉ writes the decision to end the ban on evictions at a time of record homelessness could be one of the most consequential ones taken by this Government.
