Elsewhere in the news today the Indo reports that employers who falsely claim that workers are self-employed contractors will face a ramped up inspection regime as part of a crackdown on social welfare fraud, while the head of the Defence Forces has told the Government that permitting military representative bodies to become part of the trade union movement could jeopardise national security.

Meanwhile, the front page of the Sunday Business Post reported that polling shows voters would prefer investment in public services to tax cuts, as Brexit fears loom large, while the paper's editorial warns on the effects of the rising cost of living.

The Post also reported that a former assistant principal at the Department of Communications has taken up a post lobbying for Facebook, but was not subject to a 'cooling off' period. He can now lobby his former department on a range of policy issues, including political advertising. A copy of the story is available upon request.

In other news, the spend on luxury flights by publicly funded university's flies high, scepticism over 'Brexit deal breakthrough', a government ban on single use plastics, and the Department of Education is investigating more than 50 cases in which schools are alleged to be “misusing” special needs teachers by using them to teach mainstream classes.
