The Government's 'rainy day fund’ should be used to aid low-income families who will face higher costs because of Brexit, according to the Irish Congress of Trade Unions. ICTU general secretary Patricia King said the impact of a disorderly exit on the poorest households in Ireland was not generally appreciated.

RTÉ reports figures released by the Minister for Children show that average full-time childcare fees in May this year were €184 per week, a 3.6% increase from the same time last year.

 

Visa has called for a 'fairer' and more 'transparent' card tipping system, in its pre-budget submission to the Government. The proposal comes as an increasing number of hotels, pubs and restaurants come under scrutiny over how they handle tips, with ICTU among the groups calling for greater transparency in how tips are distributed and criticising current practices in the hospitality sector.
