The Department of Education and Skills has advised Fórsa that it has changed the terms of the Medmark occupational health assessments. Medmark is to conduct a review of their initial assessment, and will now consider if staff with ‘high risk’ conditions should be advised against returning to work.

 

Fórsa will later today tell the Oireachtas Covid-19 committee that significant number of staff in schools are providing personal care to students without adequate personal protective equipment. Read more on that here. 

 

Sisters of Charity workers will hold a protest today between 11.00 a.m. and 12.00 p.m today outside the main entrance of St Monica’s Nursing Home on Belvedere Place, Dublin 1 to highlight their demands for an urgent meeting with management to negotiate a fair redundancy package and protect services in the community. #PayUpSisters 

 

In aviation, Ryanair has warned of potential future job cuts if tough travel restrictions remain in place.

 

The Dáil returns this afternoon following a curtailed summer recess, with a debate on proposed legislation to empower gardaí to close pubs that are not complying with public health guidelines expected.

 

Fórsa’s South Dublin South Leinster SNA branch made headlines in The Echo following their show of support for Debenhams workers who have been picketing every day since April for a fair redundancy package. 

 

The Times reports that CAO points for many third-level courses are likely to rise due to higher grades being offered to Leaving Cert students this year under the Government’s new calculated grades process. The Department of Education has confirmed that grades will be “stronger” this year compared to previous years, which will lead to some grade inflation.

 

Up to 4,000 Unite members have voted to take strike action if employers try to reduce their pay and conditions, or fail to implement a due 2.7% pay increase. The move comes following a High Court ruling earlier this summer that legally binding Sectoral Employment Orders negotiated between employers and unions on pay and conditions were unconstitutional.

 

The meat plant lobby says it won't engage with the SIPTU on striking a deal for sick pay terms for workers according to The Examiner.
