The Line Is A Curve
by Niall Shanahan

On Saturday MidWest Radio carried news of the many tributes to our late colleague and friend Jerry King, whose funeral took place over the weekend. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

As we headed into the weekend Fórsa's Education division received correspondence from the Minister of State for Special Education and Inclusion, Jospeha Madigan TD, that included a commitment to consider the accreditation of the SNA national training programme at UCD. You can read more about that here.

Over the weekend the Irish Times political editor Pat Leahy sets the scene, and defined what's at stake, for the 'intricate dance' of public service pay talks: "Agreement is possible rather than probable, and failure to strike a deal would result in a series of pay claims and – most likely – industrial disputes across the public sector." Well worth a read.

In the Business Post, Ian Guider strikes a far more hostile note, and says 'Public sector pay rises will only dig us deeper into inflation crisis.' (available as a PDF via that link in case you don't have a sub to the BP).

Elsewhere Paul Cullen writes about the recruitment dilemma facing the HSE, with "young staff emigrating and older staff retiring early part of complex chain of problems."

Oh, and truckers are closing off several routes in Dublin today. Take note and avoid.

Zen

Friday saw the long-awaited release of Kae Tempest's new album The Line is a Curve. Not the first time I've featured their work on here so I' won't go on about it, but rest assured it's absolutely brilliant. A track performed with Fontaines DC's Grian Chatten is available above and below for your moment of Zen.

Have a great week.

Niall
