Following in Twitter’s footsteps, Tech giant Meta is to begin laying off employees from today, with thousands of jobs expected to be axed worldwide. It is feared the job cuts will hit Meta's Irish operations, which employ thousands of people in Dublin, Cork, and Meath. 

 

The nurses’ union has warned staff are working in “horrendous” conditions and are suffering from stress and burnout, as it emerged that more than 100,000 patients have been left waiting on trolleys this year.

Meanwhile, the latest results from the US Midterm elections show Democrats hold on in several key states but Republicans surge in Florida. More on that here.


And Italian archaeologists have unearthed 24 preserved bronze statues in Tuscany believed to date back to ancient Roman times. The statues were discovered under the muddy ruins of an ancient bathhouse in a hilltop town in the Siena province, about 160km north of the capital Rome.
