The 5th International Trade Union Confederation World Congress continues today (and concludes tomorrow) and you can follow proceedings at #ITUC22.

The Indo reports that employers will have to compensate workers with up to four weeks’ pay if they do not give adequate consideration to their personal situations when dealing with requests for remote working.

In the same coverage, Laura Bambrick of ICTU says proposed changes to the Bill, including reference to the needs of the employee when an employer considers requests, are a “huge improvement,” and said a clause that means the government will look at giving all workers the right to request flexible work after two years is another “big win”, particularly as many are in jobs that do not allow for remote working.

Elsewhere, commenting on the gender pay gap legislation, Ethel Buckley of SIPTU has said it will likely illustrate the "under-valuing of work that is done by women."

Meanwhile, the latest Credit Union consumer sentiment index suggests consumers are planning for a 'careful' festive season, and the Shannon Chamber of Commerce has accused the Department of Agriculture of attempting a “land grab” by forcing non-European Union agricultural products to be checked in Dublin, rather than Shannon Airport.
