michael martin, what an absolute pantload this guy is. He’s a holdover from a previous disastrous government who’s now propping up the current diastrous government. How he has the balz to be criticizing the behavior of any other party is astonishing. Vote them out folks, its the only answer.

see and therein lies a problem, actually it’s THE problem…

Fianna Gael know they have the literal bulk in their machine, candidates & MONEY never to be truly threatened in a GE so you get this barefaced bluster & spin from himself & the other non-elected Taoiseach.

sure ’tis like a monarchy, life is grand, the system is gamed, broken, so despite this kind of laughable blx falling out mouthes there’s no real threat. they could come up with a space program next, blow €6 Bill on the consultancy for it, give DOB & Lowry the contract to build it & they’d STILL be there. we are stuck in a moment whilst they enjoy this time swanning about, it suits them & some small percentage of the population.

there’s a massive vacuum to fill, Fianna Gael want to keep it that way, status quo & preservation of power…isn’t that the entire raison d’être of a Tory party? so far at least there’s no far-right reaction coming in to fill that vacuum BUT nobody else is either. Catherine Murphy didn’t even have a candidate in my area for selection last GE, see?

sorry to say it but the only thing that will break this Ireland that’s getting built right in front of our eyes is a war, revolution or some monumental disaster & aftermath of same.

so in the end I think you can only do what you can do as a regular joe individual…I’ll vote in the way I can but directly I’m doing everything I can to make sure my children get thru their 3rd level & get to hell out of here!

I usually consider myself pretty much unshockable but what happened to Ana Kriegel absolutely breaks my heart.

not familiar with the case, but I’m assuming worse will come out before that trial is over.

Anyone find it a bit convenient that a Labour candidate finds those records? And holds them up to be photographed (not a selfie either) for the media to print? And he reckons he is concerned about data protection?
Shades of Joanie and her boating days.

Coming la day after a similar event in Drogheda when patient records were found in someone’s (Labour supporter) garden, the records were handed over to senator Ged Nash who then took to the media.

Interesting how the different papers present the shift away from the two main parties in Britain. The Sun infers it’s all to do a Brexiteer protest vote while The Independent declares Lib Dems the real winners.

The surprise is of course Labour who should be polling much better at this point, pilling even more pressure on Corybn to back another referendum as the only way to block Farage.

The overload of Quirke coverage tells us one thing: Irish newspapers are heavily dependent on boggers for readership. Pure INM/Mail Sindo small-town Sunday Mass tat.

Nobody in Dublin gives a rat’s behind.

well they’re busy plastering radio ad’s across the board on it this morning, surprised I’m not seeing it in the bus shelters! last time I looked into how much primetime radio ads costed that’s some amount of money to blow, the logic defies me

can any newspaper-aware people on here explain to me how that works?

Disappointed with the Star this morning. Did they not hear about the Mammoth Ants that have invaded Shetland? Or the Jellyfish from Mars that have started to inhabit five star hotels?

D-day for Denis O’Brien, we may see the first report from the inspectors who were sent in by the High Court to INM last year. The inspectors from the corporate watchdog are investigating a number of allegations and issues. One is the secret success fees of €1.1 million that were about to be paid by INM to Denis O’Brien after INM sold oversea assets, that success fee was challenged by the CEO and whistleblower Robert Pitt and stopped. Another issue is the sale by Denis O’Brien of the loss-making Newstalk radio station to INM. Denis wanted nearly three times what INM thought the radio station was worth.

Now, in light of those issues with INM being investigated by the ODCE, what about the sale of INM itself to Mediahuis.

How long was Denis O’Brien negotiating the sale of his 30% share in INM? It was probably months.
Is Denis O’Brien being paid any success or fixer fees for his sale of shares at a nominal 10.5c each?
Is Denis O’Brien getting any non-financial incentive to sell, eg INM dropping proceedings against his right hand man, Leslie Buckley?

Given Denis’s form as revealed by the Moriarty Tribunal and the watchdog issues at INM, and remember Denis’s acquisition of Siteserv is the subject of a €30m (to date) commission of investigation, how likely is it the deal only involves 10.5c a share?

Will be an interesting day in Northern Ireland as the counting for the local elections gets underway with around 400 seats up for grabs. Will the Shinners overtake the DUP (probably not, even though Sinn Fein will likely get more votes, gerrymandering is still alive and kicking in 2019), will voters desert the SF/DUP to express frustration at the lack of an Executive at Stormont, Will voters return to the SDLP (which was once the biggest nationalist party and is now FF’s partner in the North) and the UUP (similarly, once the biggest unionist party)? How will the progressive non-sectarian Alliance do?

And let’s not forget, Fianna Fail made a modest commitment more than five years ago to stand candidates for elections in Northern Ireland in 2019. When FF senator Mark Daly and FF TD Eamon O’Cuiv jumped the gun last November with announcing one candidate for these local elections, they were both severely reprimanded.
FF, the Republic Party my backside.

Brazen Trinity College, the home of HIV butter and brushed-under-the-carpet hazing, is touting for €130 million of philanthropic funding. They’re shaking the begging bowl even though they continue to receive funding from Chinese spying technology company, Huawei ; reputable universities around the world, like Oxford and Stanford have already stopped joint research with Huawei.
