      I’m quite sure that 3 is still less than 4. I’m sure even Blackrock College educated “poshie” O’Broin would know that. LOL

      A change was made where annual rent rises are now based on inflation instead of set caps.
      But since then, the inflation rate used to determine rents in rent pressure zones (RPZs) has shot up to 3pc.

        Except, Cian, Darragh O Brien in July said the calculation used was based on 0.73% over the past 3 years. In July 2021, the inflation rate was 2.2% and rising.
        I’m quite sure that 3% is quite a lot more than 0.73%. And, inflation is heading just one way – up. So the landlords will be able to increase by more than the earlier 4%.

        A rent freeze of course would have been the solution. But what we got was a FFG solution. No need for a Blackrock eduction to see what that was.

        @Cian I think the whole issue with RPZs is the fact that Landlords took the rules as meaning that rents, which are already at unsustainable levels, had a 4% yearly increase built in. Very few Landlords saw this as optional – and took it as a state-sanctioned rent increase – hence the change. As the current rate of inflation can be linked to the rising fuel costs etc. we will be very soon back to a 4% or greater increase after all the fanfare from O’Brien to keep rents stable. He needs to act fast as whatever about all the nonsense around Zappone, the government’s fate is tied to housing.

          well Fianna Fail’s fate is absolutely linked to Housing
          and they specifically held out for Housing in the Programme for Government
          and that was the message sent out to the delegates to vote to accept the PfG

          the Blueshirts knew what they were doing hanging onto Finance Justice & Foreign Affairs
          and leaving the dopes with Environment
          which is tied firmly to Housing anyway with Local Authorities and The Housing Agency already embedded there

          They also offloaded Health very slickly

          Telling ye, and I said it before, the Blueshirts have played on hell of a Chess Game here

          BTW
          the eFFers – particularly local Cllrs, know more about Shared Equity Ownership Schemes than anyone
          So how their own Minister thought he was going to get a pass on it in his Housing Manifesto f’knows
          I reckon the lad is toast anyway
          But something about it all doesn’t add up

          Beginning to think now that it is another party entirely that drew up his Housing for all rubbish

        To clarify; I’m not surprised by the changes, but when I glanced over it – it read like our exports were ~10 times that of imports. I had to re-read to realise they were comparing a monthly figure with a year to date figure. They are technically correct – the worst kind of correct!

        They reckon nearly half a billion, over the last century of its existence – but most of those were in Europe, I think, and this is a about the US. Still, thank God for vaccines, eh?

        (But even then, this is post-European settlement America – doesn’t say anything about the numbers of Natives wiped out by infections brought over by disease-ridden colonists.)

          1st hand accounts are a good start unless of course you imagine that thousand’s of medical and legal professionals have suddenly become ‘antivax’ or ‘far right’ or other sutch nonsense.

            First hand accounts are good, but from the point of view of broader trends, they’re anecdotes, and it depends on whether they can be trusted and verified, particularly in a situation where pandemic-truther disinformation is being churned out at industrial levels.

            Yes I do believe the first hand accounts, you would have to conjure some magical conspiracy to imagine so many people from different walks of life have suddenly becoming compromised.

            All you have to do is take note of the numbers anyway, they’re proof enough of the colosal failure of the truth the ‘narrative’ pushers want us to believe.

            That’s an interesting editorial. It uses the same basic model as pandemic-truthing, which is that because some people were able to take advantage of the pandemic for profit, then it follows that the pandemic must have been artificially manufactured in order for those parties to profit from it, and attempts to apply it to the climate crisis, thereby linking corporate greenwashing to street-level activism and everything in between as one large scam. He doesn’t really posit an actual reason why fossil fuel industries, raking in massive profits as they are, would want to switch en masse to more sustainable forms of energy, let alone deal with the fact that all their efforts have been and are focused on controlling sustainable energy development in order to slow it down if not prevent it outright. Certainly he identifies structural problems, power inequalities and vested interests, but oddly enough takes their efforts to minimise climate change action while hiding behind greenwashing PR to imply that the climate crisis is as manufactured as he claims the pandemic was in order to facilitate a plot for global control via financial instruments. A New World Order conspiracy, in other words.

            The reality of climate change is left untouched, which is funny, because you could certainly argue that the fossil fuel industry did, in fact, artificially generate this crisis, it’s just that it was so obviously done in the name of short-term profit nobody would believe it was planned. Nonetheless, I expect this heralds the new form of climate-change denial that will no doubt form Bodger’s next anti-evil crusade, and pandemic-truthers whill shift to climate-truthers who will claim with straight faces that Greta Thunberg is a dupe of Big Oil.

            It’s all the same money, the companies that were oil polluters are now transitioning to ‘green’ energy – the plebs are picking up the tab (and more).
            I don’t play whack-a-mole with with the different elements pharma, energy etc – they’re all the same. It’s finance (banking). That is all.

      Swiss Roll with Frills on

      Swiss Roll Tin. Line with parchment, then grease very lightly, and sprinkle with dusting of flour and caster sugar
      Oven 200°
      Do this prep in advance. Don’t wait until your batter is ready for the tin

      3 eggs, 100gms caster sugar. Beat until it’s quadrupled in bulk, and the mixer wand leaves a trail, and the colour is the perfect blonde
      Shift in 100gm plain flour
      And fold and fold and fold – super gentle, like you’re putting a 3 mth old into a babygro

      Air is your raising agent, so mind it

      Into the tin
      11mins or when pressed it springs back, and the sides have eased away from the sides

      Meanwhile, have your cooling tray ready
      Place another sheet of parchment on it, and sprinkle with caster sugar
      Tip your sponge out ( remove the paper you baked her in)
      And roll with the fresh sheet in it

      Leave it to go cold.
      Unwrap
      Fill as you like. I’m using Lemon Curd and freshly whipped cream (I always use double for whipping btw)
      Cream first then curd
      Incidentally, my mother used to use pineapple jam she made from tins, and boil down the juice/ syrup and add a drop of Kiskadee

      Don’t be too generous with the filling – you won’t get a decent roll otherwise
      And roll again
      Top it off with icing or cream
      Or leave it, the sugar on a perfect roll is just enough, in fact it’s perfect
