The Business Post and the Irish Examiner report on Fórsa's objection to the "cosmetic exercise" of the rebranding of An Bord Pleanála, The Examiner quotes Ian McDonnell's letter to the housing minister, saying that the proposed name change “reflects negatively on all who work in the organisation” and is akin to “collective punishment of all (past and present) in the organisation who have worked and continue to work diligently and conscientiously in accordance with public sector values of impartiality and integrity”. 

 

Elsewhere, the Examiner reports that trade union membership among Ireland's tech workers has more than doubled in just six months. 

 

The Irish Times leads with news that empty office blocks would be converted into apartments "under a Government plan to tackle the housing shortfall as political pressure over the crisis intensifies." 

 

Meanwhile Ryanair has reported a profit of €1.4 billion in the 12 months to the end of March, after a net loss of €355 million in its previous financial year.

 

New Irish legislation in effect from today means that the labels of alcohol products must state the calorie content and grams of alcohol in the product. Ireland is the first country in the world to introduce such regulations.
