I am writing with an update on the industrial action by ICT workers in local authorities. The Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) has invited both Fórsa and the LGMA to engage in conciliation in an effort to assist the parties towards a resolution, and has requested the union “pause its industrial action while talks are underway to facilitate positive engagement”.
Having considered the invitation to talks, the union’s Disputes Committee has decided to pause the industrial action with immediate effect and have confirmed our intention to attend the WRC this week. Therefore, members who were taking industrial action were advised yesterday evening to return to work as normal.
The LGMA has indicated willingness to engage in without-prejudice discussions regarding the current ICT Dispute. This is a significant step forward compared to where we were before the industrial action.
Well done to all our ICT members for standing strong during the action and to all those of you who supported your colleagues.
