Senior EU figures have threatened a strong response to the UK pressing ahead with a bill that would overturn the Northern Ireland Protocol.

 

The Minister for Housing will bring a proposal to Cabinet today to extend the Government's defective block redress scheme to counties Clare and Limerick. The project is expected to exceed the projected €2.2bn price tag.

 

The Irish Medical Organisation has said a strike by junior doctors would be a “last resort” as the sector voted on Monday to take industrial action over poor working conditions.

 

Elsewhere, the INMO has said that it has ‘no choice’ but to consult with its members resulting from persistent hospital overcrowding which is not being taken seriously as a workers’ health issue by the HSE.

 

Taoiseach has vowed a crackdown on ‘reprehensible’ energy crisis profiteering as new plans to reduce electricity bills are set to be considered by Cabinet this morning.

 

Meanwhile fuel hikes are on the agenda a new report indicates that it will now cost 750 euro a year more to fill a petrol car.

 

And finally, Ryanair’s Spanish cabin crew have announced a series of 24 hour work stoppages in protest over pay and working conditions. Read more on that here.
