The inaugural meeting of the Fórsa Disability Network took place in our Nerney's Court office on Saturday. The event was officially opened by Finian McGrath TD, Minister of State for Disability Issues. For a flavour of Saturday's discussion, visit #FórsaDisability on Twitter.

 

Yesterday the Sindo reported that the HSE is introducing a three-month recruitment and overtime ban in community operations and acute hospitals. A copy of the HSE letter about the measures is available here (via Alan Kelly TD on Twitter). Today the Indo reports that some senior civil servants are earning more than the Taoiseach.

 

Last week the European Parliament voted on the final deal for the directive on work/life balance. The directive will bring new rights to many European countries covering things like paternity and carers leave, though without any obligation for the leave to be paid. More details here.

 

If you've ever wondered just how grim things are if you're a worker trapped in the gig economy, the cab drivers at Luton airport could paint quite a picture for you. Nevertheless,

 

 

 

Another recommended read is Will Hutton's forensic analysis of the root of the problems with the Boeing 737 Max aircraft. Hutton highlights the Trump-era zeal for anti-regulation, including plans to privatise the Federal Aviation Authority. Chilling stuff.
