NPHET has warned that we're in a precarious pandemic position and the HSE fears hospitals will be overwhelmed if a second coronavirus wave coincides with the winter flu season. 

 

We'll have to wait on next week's July stimulus for confirmation of how far (and for whom) the Covid-19 wage subsidy scheme will be extended. Also expect around €2 billion in unconditional cheap loans for small businesses.

 

Most titles also carry news that leaving cert results and CAO offers are to be pushed into September, delaying college entry for freshers.

 

Meanwhile, Mandate's worried about face mask-policing, and the Government is to set up an LGBTI+ inclusion fund.

 

The UK government is facing a large bill after accepting a court ruling against public service pension changes, which moved younger workers to less generous schemes while maintaining better arrangements for their older colleagues.

 

And local boy Aiden Regan has an op-ed on the EU and tax avoidance in the Guardian this morning.
