Who knew

ICTU's Northern Ireland committee staged a rally in Belfast yesterday to speak out against the recent violence in the North. Yesterday's deployment of water cannons in the city underpinned that troubling story's place on today's front pages, while Pat Leahy of the Times has this on the political background.

That title also reports that the HSE is set to recruit another 3,500 vaccinators, and adds Galway to the list of places where SNAs and teachers have got Covid jabs. Meanwhile, yet another Thursday brought yet another NPHET briefing.

Elsewhere, reports of Mater hospital board members (including former ICTU gen sec David Begg) getting vaccinated rumble on, the Indo has this on (rather overblown) fears that the Phoenix Park could be sold off, and Moneypoint power station is to be turned over to renewable energy

Following Hazel's acknowledgement of Joe Biden's pro-trade union stance in yesterday's Digest, we have the Guardian's lefty economist Larry Elliott detecting a seismic shift in global economic policy under the 46th president.

And, for those old enough to care, today's Zen showcases the shameful truth about Pete Townshend's guitar-smashing. And repairing.

Have a good weekend.

Bernard
