Massive destruction has shattered the Libyan coastal city of Derna, home to about 100,000 people, where multistorey buildings on the river banks collapsed, with storm Daniel leaving thousands of people dead or missing. Swathes of the Mediterranean city were obliterated by a torrent of water unleashed by the powerful storm that swept down a usually dry riverbed, bursting dams above the city.
