Having conducted a ballot
or, indeed, an orchestra

Morning folks, apologies for the slightly later than usual digest release, I was subbed in at the 11th hour to write it. Here's the news:

The third one-day Ryanair pilots' strike took place yesterday. The disputes committee meets today to decide whether and when further industrial action will take place. Ryanair has issued letters of protective notice to more than 300 staff as it announced plans to cut its Dublin based fleet by 20% for the winter months.

The Mental Health Commission's annual report was released this morning, The Irish Times are reporting on the number of children placed in adult mental health units rose by 20 per cent.

The Irish Times are also reporting that the State is set to transpose critical EU cybersecurity law ‘in coming days,’ after the European Commission commenced early-stage infringement proceedings against 17 member states, including Ireland.

The Irish independent reports on the deepening of the housing crisis, with the number of people living in emergency accommodation increasing.

Paul Dillon of the Financial Services Union has a story in the Journal, urging those concerned about the decline in real wages that the solution is to join a trade union.

Finally, today's zen comes courtesy of Bernard. I can't claim it as I didn't notice the proms are back.

If you've noticed that the proms are back on at the Royal Albert Hall, you may also have wondered what those conductors are actually doing. A Zenful James Gaffigan explains here.

That's it for now.
