School secretaries lobbied the Dáil yesterday ahead of meeting the Fianna Fáil parliamentary party as they head into the Easter holidays with no income. While the CE supervisor strike announcement got some local coverage in Meath and Leitrim papers yesterday.

 

Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi hailed the Good Friday Agreement as a "beacon to the world" as she addressed the Dáil yesterday, reiterating that nothing should happen in the Brexit discussions that imperils the Agreement.

 

Also in the Dáil yesterday, a campaign for marriage equality sought TD support to challenge Northern Ireland's same-sex marriage ban. Love Equality NI briefed members about the fight for equality in the region.

 

According to new figures provided by minister Paschal Donohoe, commercial semi-state firms last year paid out dividends of €261.19m to the State - the biggest contributor was Ervia, which paid out a dividend of €139m.

 

Baggage handlers at Heathrow and Luton airports are to stage strikes at the end of the month in separate disputes over pay. Unite said 300 of its members will walk out for four days from April 26 after voting by 99% in favour of action.
