Solidarity with Dublin City: A message from Fórsa trade union
by Kevin Callinan

Dear member,

Please see below information relating to the show of solidarity scheduled for 1pm on Monday outside the GPO and a statement from Fórsa on yesterday’s events in Dublin city centre.

Solidarity action
We are calling on workers in Dublin city centre to assemble at the GPO on Monday 27th November at 1pm to show their solidarity with all the people of the capital and to clearly denounce this violence and riotous behaviour in a solemn and respectful way.

In solidarity,

Kevin Callinan

Fórsa statement
Fórsa trade union, representing more than 80,000 public service workers nationwide, has expressed sympathy for those injured in the attack on Parnell Square yesterday.

On behalf of members of the union, general secretary Kevin Callinan also expressed gratitude and solidarity with those working to protect the city, and to the workers engaged in the clean-up of Dublin city centre today.

Mr Callinan said: “On behalf of Fórsa’s members I want to express our deepest sympathy to the parents and staff of the Coláiste Mhuire school community.

“Like everyone else learning about how events unfolded yesterday, we are appalled at the violence, and commend the bravery of those who sought to intervene and prevent further injury.

“Equally, we want to express solidarity with retail, public transport staff and other workers affected by the violence in Dublin city centre last night, and to thank those who continue to protect Dublin and its people, and the medical staff providing care and assistance to those affected by yesterday’s events.

“Those engaged in violent disorder last night don't represent the people of Ireland.

“Public services stand between order and chaos, and we stand together with those who work to deliver public services, against hate and against division,” he said.
