IRISH woman Eimear Noone made history last night being the first ever female conductor at the Oscars.

Viewers around the world were impressed and delighted for the Galway gal.

Speaking to Variety on the red carpet Eimear said: "I can't wait to get to the music part the red carpet is terrifying."

When asked how she landed the opportunity Eimear said: "I got a phone call from my dear colleague Ricky Minor who's the music director for the Oscars.

"That was it really, it was just amazing, it was like being touched by the hand of God, I do 40/50 concerts a year and this is extraordinary, special and amazing."

When asked how she felt about being the first female conductor Eimear replied: "I was surprised, there have been some great women in Hollywood making music.

"I hadn't realised that this was the first time at the Oscars."

Friends and fans took to Instagram to congratulate Eimear.

Actress Roma Downey said: "So proud and thrilled for my friend Eimear Noone she became the first woman to conduct the Oscar orchestra tonight in a truly stunning performance! Go girl! #Oscars"

Someone else said: "As a violinist, I cannot be more grateful to have witnessed the first #Oscar2020 Female #Conductor"
