How convenient that the PWC report makes a point that the building of this white elephant should continue. Grim alright.

Who is responsible for the overspend? As far as I can make out, it’s

“The NCH Design Team comprises firms of architects (BDP and O’Connell Mahon), design engineers (Arup and O’Connor Sutton Cronin) and quantity surveyors (Linesight)”

If that is right, what were the names of the individuals at these five firms who represented their firms? What sanctions will the firms face? Will any of these firms be sued for gross incompetence?

Poor Brexit- of questionable parentage facing criminal charges, that could never make up its mind if it wanted to be Horis or Doris, now lies on a life support machine. The irony of a vote for ‘independence’ which now leaves the UK at the complete mercy of the other member states should not be lost.

In the north, for the EU elections, SF and SDLP are in full campaign mode but no noise from the Unionists. It will be interesting to see how well (or not) the DUP do. Likewise in GB where some supporters of other partner in this gay marriage, have already stated that they will refuse to campaign.

And for the first time in three years, the people will have their say. How those results are interpreted is another story but one thing is for certain, that those who wish to remain will be out in force, especially in NI and Scotland.

Leo was on fire in the Dail yesterday. When challenged by the Shinners about record numbers of trolleys and delays getting ambulances to injured people (“an elderly man who fell in Skibbereen last week was left lying on a pavement for nearly two hours while waiting for an ambulance to take him to CUH. The ambulance in question was one of eight that were queueing outside the hospital waiting to offload patients and it never came.”)

Leo’s responses “I never like to reduce this to statistics because it is not about statistics, it is about people. .. I regularly read the Irish News to ensure that I am up to date in the situation in Northern Ireland…The number of people waiting for an operation or procedure for more than a year is 21,477 in Northern Ireland, compared with 4,900 here, representing 1.1% of the population of Northern Ireland compared with 0.1% here. The number of people waiting more than a year for an outpatient appointment in Northern Ireland is 94,000, compared with 89,000 here, which is 5.2% of the population compared with 1.6% here. The situation in Northern Ireland is much worse”

Leo also pointed out that it was the Shinners who last held the role of health minister in the North (Michelle O’Neill, July 2016 – Jan 2017, though there was stasis from the start of Dec 2016). If Michelle O’Neill is responsible for the health system in the North because she was health minister for a few months, then Leo must be really messing his parts over his role in the design and budgeting for the National Childrens Hospital.

True but it puts paid to the idea that there is universal health care in the north. It’s just as big a shambles and no government sure as hell isn’t helping.

So are the waiting lists for operations worse or the same as in England, Wales and Scotland? I’m not sure how equally spread the NHS standards are across the UK.

I wonder what Trump will have to say about US firms rushing to buy bonds at Saudi Arabia’s state oil company, Aramco (front page FT)? After the torture, murder and disappearance (they haven’t found his body yet, but it’s believed the genitalia were delivered to the Saudi prince that many hold responsible for planning the murder) of US resident and Saudi native journalist, Jamal Khashoggi, you’d think Trump might have something to say.

Fair play to Gavid Sheridan, the journalist and transparency campaigner, who is behind what the Times Ireland reports today is to be an appeal to the Supreme Court to get access to documents linked to disgraced ex-minister Denis Naughten’s agreement to extend broadband contracts to Enet for 10 years without competition. The High Court said the documents should be released. The Court of Appeal reversed that decision. The Information Commissioner is to appeal that decision to the Supreme Court.

It’s an important case for holding the government to account in the way it spends our money.

    Gwan the Gavin!

It’s not just FFer Kevin O’Keeffe who has questions to answer about his ticketing dealings with John Delaney (Kevin paid €1,806 for two tickets to last year’s world cup final in Moscow, the tickets were selling for up to €180,000 in the secondary market). According to the Indo today, which reminds us of the story which first broke three weeks ago

“A TD who has been one of John Delaney’s fiercest critics previously sought the former FAI chief executive’s assistance to get tickets for Ireland football matches…Internal FAI correspondence states Fine Gael TD Noel Rock texted Mr Delaney regarding match tickets in March and October 2017…It also claims Mr Rock texted Mr Delaney in November ..[2018] saying he was “happy to push back against” a proposal from Social Democrats TD Catherine Murphy for the then FAI chief executive to appear before the Oireachtas Transport, Tourism and Sport Committee.”

Maybe all the members of the Oireachtas committee should reveal their dealings with the FAI.

      1. MaryLou's ArmaLite

        A pathetic attempt at deflection

You SF/IRA scum are all the same, in the name of the cause every action is justified

        1. topsy

Your a sad case. Hopefully you’ll find it in your heart to give a vote to your SF candidate in the local elections.

        2. Johnny

          1. My Man

What’s good about that? They are our closest neighbors and largest trading partners. Why would we want to see them fail?

          2. MaryLou's ArmaLite

            Spreading my sectarianism?
            WTF you on about?

SF/IRA are the hate filled sectarian poohouses. If ye don’t like people pointing things like this out, maybe stop celebrating and glorifying murder and making excuses for it.

Ye are a nasty bunch of fascists and it isn’t hard to see thru your veil.

Ooo-la-la, front page of the Telegraph, wonder what Macron is thinking as he plants a peck on Theresa, she’s three years younger than Mrs Macron. Liberty, equality, grannygrabbery.

          1. bisted

…I like eoin and his take on the papers especially…don’t always agree but he does seem to know where the bodies are buried…not as many laughs as his previous incarnation – Ollie C…

          2. Papi

He’s probably 100% right. Why he piggybacks a news site is the question. Why he does it in the style of a first year journalism student is just funny.

      1. eoin

Apologies if I’ve caused you offence Janet, it’s just the pic on the front page of the Telegraph appeared to me to reveal a certain frisson between the pair. I wasn’t insulting France or Frenchmen or suggesting there’s anything wrong with younger man/older woman relations
