Community Employment (CE) supervisors have begun a series of protests at the office of education minister Joe McHugh, over the failure of the government to implement a labour court recommendation regarding their right to a pension. The protests are expected to continue up until the election on February 8.


Hydrogen powered buses are set to hit the road in Northern Ireland later this year, in a major step towards achieving zero carbon emissions from Northern Ireland’s public transport by 2040. The buses are fuelled with 30kg of hydrogen which allows them to travel for approximately 300kms.


Scotland’s Parliament voted Wednesday to hold a new referendum on Scottish independence, with lawmakers in the Edinburgh-based legislature voting 64-54 in favour of it.


Overseas, China reported its biggest single-day jump in coronavirus deaths yesterday, heightening fears of the spread of a global contagion.


Up to 30 minutes will be saved off peak journey times on the N25 between Cork and Rosslare following today's official opening of the New Ross bypass. The project cost €230m and will be open to traffic tomorrow.
